I'm building something new, and Kalos is open for business
The work changes, but the vocation stays the same
Hi friends,
It’s almost summer here in central Texas. The days have been balmy, overcast, and even stormy. Etta just finished her first year of preschool, which we celebrated over lunch at Milo. The seasons are turning, and this is true for the weather, and life.
There’s a good chance you heard that earlier this month, Cloudflare laid off 20% of its workforce, and mine was one of the few engineering roles cut. Given that the company had its most successful quarterly earnings yet, this was a surprise to almost everyone. Tech layoffs have become so frequent though that it’s almost expected, and the reasons for layoffs don’t cleanly map to traditional assumptions anymore.
Yes, it was disappointing, but on to newer things.
Earlier this year I joined Mockingbird Ministries as a fractional CTO as an experiment in a new way of working. Now, I’d like to announce that Kalos is open for business.
With a decade of experience in a variety of industries and domains, I bring taste, judgment, and the capacity for hands-on execution along with strategy. I don’t approach projects as a mercenary freelancer or a disinterested “advisor”, but as a partner and owner. I care about outcomes as much as inputs.
I’m continuing to work with Mockingbird Ministries, and beginning work on an unannounced new media project. I’m still figuring out capacity, but if your organization or business needs
custom software development
web design/development/hosting
operations/technology wrangling
strategy, messaging, and community building
let’s talk. You can reach me at robbie@kalos.build.
And if someone comes to mind who might need this kind of help, I’d be grateful if you sent this their way.
I’m excited to share details about what I’ve already been building very soon. In the meantime, also expect to see more writing from here. I already have a few essays that my fingers have been itching at the keyboard to get out.
Thanks for reading and following along. More regular programming to resume next week.
